Eltan Character Creator Zine

Welcome!

This is a system-agnostic character creation system designed to work with the setting of Etria; it's mainly designed for me to play out characters in the world I've been developing for over 10 years. But I've decided to release it in case it piques anyone else's interest. Though this is system agnostic, it also uses some language from Cypher System and so works particularly well with Numennera!

This zine is part of an ongoing project to produce a set of mini-guides to help anyone play a game in the land of Etria. For more information, graphics and sketches of the world, just go here: https://worldofetria.tumblr.com/. Etria is inspired by the likes of Adventure Time, Studio Ghibli works, Numenrera and more. It includes elements of fantasy and science fiction with each culture having a distinct flavour; for a sci-fi game, travel to the country of Hodi where they have a technocracy and fancy drones.

The document contains:

• Archetypes (classes), custom species, custom cultures and a unique type of magic.
• All of the above have specific examples of skills or mechanics to include in your game.
• There's also a list of forces (special abilities) related to each archetype that are easily reskinnable to any system, that allow your character to have magical abilities.
• Custom Names

Etria is a continent with a rich and fascinating history. In the before times, Etria was home to a series of advanced civilisations that enjoyed prosperity and technological advancement. However, this changed when a catastrophic event known as the Cataclysm occurred 1,000 years ago. No one knows what caused the cataclysm, but some say it resulted from a great war between the gods. Whatever the cause, the cataclysm was devastating. The land was torn apart, and the people were forced to flee their homes. Cities were destroyed, and the once-great kingdoms were reduced to rubble. This massive event affected all of Nef Vultia, plunging Etria into a period of darkness and chaos.

For many years, the survivors struggled to survive in the new world that had been created. Today, Etria is in the contemporary era, a time of relative peace and prosperity. The people have learned to live with the scars of the great cataclysm and emerged stronger and wiser because of it. They continue to explore their world's mysteries and seek out new ways to harness the power of magic. The continent is home to diverse cultures and peoples, and there are many opportunities for trade, exploration, and innovation.
